Glad it helped! It sounds like you might want to check out Phatch too. It can rename/copy/move files based on Exif information too - I think jBrout only does that on first-run, doesn't it?

I'll have to update this article with instructions on how to install jBrout though. The lack of a PPA is still a bit annoying. Worth it though.

I know this article is almost a year old, but better late than never :)

Excellent review. You opened my eyes to jBrout!

Until now I have been using jhead (command line tool) and ordinary moving/copying of files into folder structures to organize my photos. I have been considering exif-tagging for a while, but never knew where to start, now I know where to start: jBrout :)

I have a naming scheme that I use with jhead: yyyy-mm-dd-HHMMSS and I was happy to learn that I can teach jBrout to use that same naming scheme. All that is needed is to edit ~/.jbrout/jbrout.conf and change the line

normalizeNameFormat = p%Y%m%d_%H%M%S

to

normalizeNameFormat = %Y-%m-%d-%H%M%S

Looking forward to working more with it :)
